Reset Internal Clocks — No Thanks

Well, well, well. Seems it is time to set our kids’ internal clocks back to school time. What a silly concept.

There is actually a group here in Fairfax County that organized specifically for the purpose of convincing the school system to start classes later so kids could get the necessary sleep. The bus situation requires a “tiered” system to make the best use of the available buses. That means kids are standing at bus stops in the dark. The first bus pickups in the county are around 5:30 a.m.

Our internal clocks aren’t too far off from the elementary school near us that the kids used to attend. They start at 8:20 a.m. That’s not bus pickup time, but start time. We are generally up and about between 7:00-8:00 a.m. The nice thing is that we don’t have to then rush around getting dressed, fed, and organized to get out the door. We can take our time planning our day and doing the things we enjoy. That doesn’t mean we actually get dressed though!

GO 2 11

If you saw “GO 2 11″ on a license plate, what would you think? I know exactly what I would think. And apparently so did the California lawyer who had this on his plate.

This made my day.

Urban Deer

This is for you, JJ. Your post about stopping to watch the deer inspired me.

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago. As we were getting in the car to go somewhere one morning, Theodore screamed “LOOK!!” and pointed to the end of the street (two houses down). I was able to get the camera and shoot a few pictures before they ran away. Unfortunately, I had to use “super zoom” so the pictures weren’t so clear.

The very sad thing about this is that those woods in the background are probably the last 4 undeveloped acres in Fairfax, and they have been sold to a developer. They will be building 6 houses on 1/2 acre lots (which I guess is better than 60 townhouses!). The poor deer.

Florida Skies

We’re back from our “vacation” in Florida. It’s not really a vacation, but an obligatory trip we make once or twice a year to see family. Someday, I hope we can take a real vacation somewhere. It’s pretty in Florida, and we always have fun, but I never really feel like I’m on vacation.

The thing I love about Florida is the sky. Here are some examples of what we saw last week:

Sky 2

Sky 3

So THAT’S how he did it!
